The Review: Mortal Kombat Legends Scorpion's Revenge

Mortal Kombat Legends Scorpion's Revenge 7/10

The other day while cruising around HBO Max and had recently watched the new Mortal Kombat and the old one (still awesome) and saw this Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge movie and decided to check it out. I'm glad I did because this was pretty cool. Also, same with the latest MK movie the best parts were the ones involving Scorpion. We once again get to see his family slaughtered which is quickly becoming the new Bruce Wayne watching his parents get shot. He comes home with his son and notices that the city is too quiet. Next thing you know he is being chased by ninjas and after his son finds his mom dead Scorpion loses all of his shit! There is more violence in this scene than in all MK movies combined. He was slicing heads into threes! It was wild.

The Review: Mortal Kombat (2021)

Mortal Kombat 6/10

Full of spoilers. This was a fun-ish movie. Let me just get that out of the way first. The biggest problem I have with it is this weird thing that is going on in a lot of movies where the main character has no personality. They are just a tool to keep the movie going. Also, the fact that I would have 100% rather have seen the story that began this movie instead of anything after. It begins in Japan hundreds of years ago with Hanzo (aka Scorpion) living a nice ass life with his wife and children. He goes to get some water when Bi-Han (Sub-Zero) assassinates them. Hanzo comes home and starts slicing ninjas to death in a very cool scene. He sees his family frozen in ice and has a cool fight with Sub-Zero who ends up slicing him up and leaves. Hanzo crawls towards his house hearing his baby crying (mama hid her under the house) before dying. Raiden shows up and takes the child away.

The Review: Mortal Kombat (1995)

Mortal Kombat ?/10

Mortal Kombat is one of my favorite movies of all time. People use it as an example of how terrible video game based movies are. Granted, the special effects look like something that kids with an iPhone will laugh at and the fight scenes are more hilarious than deadly. But, come on. It came out 21 years ago. I have watched this movie over 100 times. I am not kidding. This along with Training Day, Full Metal Jacket, and Tropic Thunder are movies I've seen more than any other movie.

TV Slut: Mortal Kombat Legacy

It had to have been like late last year when the Mortal Kombat Rebirth came out and I saw it. I watched it and was immediately screaming “When is this being made into a movie?!” I mean, as much as I love the first Mortal Kombat film, it was lacking in so many areas. Still, nothing like watching Goro get punched in the nuts by Johnny Cage.

Insert Coin: Mortal Kombat

Back in the 90's videos games didn't have much blood. I know. Sounds crazy but its true. Nowadays games are literally dripping with blood as soon as you hit the power button. But in the far more innocent 90's (hey, who's laughing?!) you were content with just beating the hell out of your twin brother Double Dragon style for some strange or hopefully watching them die at the hands of crabs or fireballs like The Mario Bros. And then one day a magical game came along and changed the...uh...game.

Mortal Kombat!

Now if you just read that an didn't shout it out loud or in your head you are either too young to appreciate it or too old to give a damn. Or dead inside. When Mortal Kombat came out everyone lost their goddamn minds. In games like Bad Dudes and Double Dragon you could punch someone until your hands fell off and there would be nary a drop of blood. In MK (that's what we cool kids called it) a small jab would result in blood loss equivalent to a massive gunshot wound. An uppercut would cause a bloodbath the likes of which haven't been seen since...a large bath full of blood. Yeah.
