In Defense Of Ryan Reynolds As Deadpool

Today I got to see an image of Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool for the upcoming movie. Most times I am annoyed that so much information about movies comes out way before the movie but in this case I needed to be comforted. Deadpool is one of my favorite comic book characters and one that I never thought would get a movie. He did make an appearance, allegedly, in that terrible X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie six years ago but that doesn't count. Why? Because of what they did to him! Reynolds was cool when that movie started.

But then this happened.

In Defense Of Enjoying Wrestling

Recently wrestling has been talked about after the outrage of fans on social media regarding the 2015 Royal Rumble pay-per-view with their #CancelWWENetwork. People were mad about the way the actual rumble progressed and especially mad at the winner.

In these interviews and talk shows that I've been listening to that normally never talk about wrestling they give the same statements that have been said for decades now and just make me roll my eyes. Let me give a little background on my connection with wrestling. This won't take long.

I have been watching wrestling for 32 years now. I was born at the end of the 70's so I was fed a steady diet of WWF, NWA, WCW, AAA, and somehow was able to watch stuff from the South and Texas. My favorite wrestlers were Macho Man Randy Savage, Bret Hart, Mr. Perfect, Rick Rude, Legion of Doom, and The Great Mutoh. At one point I watched 8 hours of wrestling a week which has now become about 15 minutes a week in highlights. I wrote columns for Tha O Show for six years and even got to be on shows with guys like Hulk Hogan, Iron Sheik, Ricky Johnson (The Rock's uncle), and Booker T. even though I couldn't talk to them. Its awesome to be able to listen to a show and know I am listed with them. Currently my favorite wrestling programs are PWG and NXT.

In Defense Of Channing Tatum As Gambit

Stop the presses! Channing Tatum has been announced as playing Gambit in a standalone film as well as the new X-Men movie! Now, a lot of people are upset about this. Why? Because they are haters and have not accepted the fact that this guy that your woman wants to bang would actually be able to pull this off.

I know how it feels. I used to hate this guy. I only knew him as the hot guy in films I would only watch to get laid by a girl that had a moment of weakness and I was the closest available man or the dude from those terrible looking Step Up movies. I borderline hated this guy. But then I saw 21 Jump Street and Magic Mike and all of a sudden he was likable.

In Defense Of Fantastic 4 Reboot

I love pointless outrage. I like to think that I have mastered the ability to get upset about nothing. But the rage towards the reboot of The Fantastic Four film is funny. Most people are mad that The Human Torch is being played by a Black guy to which I reply “Its the fucking Fantastic Four...” meaning “Who gives a fuck?!” A little bit ago I defended Ben Affleck as Batman and this time I'm not gonna strongly attempt to defend a Black Human Torch so much as make you all realize that this isn't worth getting upset about.

There is this video that Max Landis, the writer of the second best superhero film Chronicle, made called The Death And Return Of Superman where the first thing he says is “Nobody gives a fuck about Superman.” That is how I feel about FF (I'm not typing their name a hundred goddamn times). This new movie is directed by Josh Trank who directed Chronicle which makes me far less concerned if this movie will be cool. Forget trying to convince people that a Black guy can be a fictional character. Getting me to even be interested in seeing a FF movie is far more remarkable.

In Defense Of Ben Affleck As Batman

The public is mad! Ben Affleck was announced as playing Batman in the sequel to Man Of Steel and immediately there have been memes and rage from not just regular comic book nerds but people who also like to pretend that they watch movies regularly or know things about comic book characters just because they saw Batman over 20 years ago.

Yeah. Its gonna be one of those types of blogs.

I should’ve prefaced this with the fact that I am a huge Batman fan but I will admit when something is not right or cool with me. I loved the last three Batman films but had issues with the voices. I forgave dozens of plot holes because fuck it he’s Batman. So when I heard that Affleck was playing him I actually said “I don’t have a problem with this.” Its not that I’m getting soft in my old age. I have just become more forgiving.
