Theater Whore: The Martian

The Martian 9/10

This will have some spoilers. “I'm gonna science the shit out of this planet.” And he does! This is not Gravity. Its is not close to that film for a lot of reasons and I was happy for it. The Martian stars Matt Damon as a botanist stranded on Mars after a storm occurs and his crew is forced to leave him behind thinking he is dead. He's not and that sucks because he is stuck on Mars with enough food for a whole crew but not enough to, like, live forever.

The cast of this also includes Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Jeff Daniels, Michael Peña, Kate Mara, Donald Glover, Sean Bean, Sebastian Stan, Aksel Hennie, and Chiwetel Ejiofor. They are all really good and even some folks I didn't mention that have smaller parts. A lot of this movie is spent wanting Mark Watney played by Damon to survive. I laughed, I cheered, I screamed “Fuck!” when he did after something went wrong. Watney would spend parts of his days making video logs and complaining about the only music being available being disco which made the movie funnier.

Theater Whore: The Skeleton Twins

The Skeleton Twins 7/10

I checked this movie The Skeleton Twins out without any really strange need to. Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig are two of my favorite people from SNL but for some reason the trailers for this never made me really want to see this. And I regret not seeing this sooner because this was a good film. It is heavier than I was expecting it to be but each of them were able to to pull it far better than I was giving them credit for.

Kristen Wiig Leaves SNL

As if I needed another reason to stop watching Saturday Night Live, Kristen Wiig has left the show. I had no idea this was her last season on the show. I watched it last night but tuned out to continue reading The Immortal Life Of Henrietta Lacks. Great book so far. The host/musical guest was Mick Jagger. The show was close to okay but nothing to talk about the next day.

That is until I saw online that this was Wiig’s last episode. Knowing that it was her last episode she should’ve had all her best characters return. In the past seven years that she has been on the show she has been the star. So many people have come and gone with no fanfare that the fact that they let her leave on such a whimper is shameful.

FAP FILES: Women Of Saturday Night Live

There’s a thin line between being a funny chick and the one that wouldn’t shut the hell up at the party. Remember her? Damn, she would not shut her word hole the entire time. She thought she was the life of the party! God, she didn’t know how to take a hint. Oh, sorry. Flashbacks suck. Over the past few years the women on Saturday Night Live have been hot. If you look back through that shows history there have been more uggos than not. Forgiveness, Rachel Dratch. This is about looks, not humor. Otherwise she would be here along with Gilda Ratner.
