DVDiculous: Dark Knight Returns Part 2
Yay! That’s all I have to say after watching Dark Knight Returns Part 2. And so concludes this review! The way the first one ended with the Joker smiling and coming out of his comatose state was nuts so I couldn’t wait to see this one. Well, Joker wakes his crazy ass up and his therapist thinks it’d be a good idea to have him appear on TV to show that he is a better person now. This is the part where we all wait for people to die.
Meanwhile the President is all “Batman is starting shit. Take him out, Superman!” Supes is being used as a secret weapon by the government and using him to fight their battles. Batman is busy beating up a giant boobed monster chick when Superman shows up ruining everything and tells him that they need to have a chat. They do and Batman pretty much tells him to stick it up his ass, Batman ain’t gonna stop. And why should he? Superman looks like a chump and a half being all “Oh, you’re making too much noise…” Go pick some flowers, ya weirdo.
Oh, and Joker ends up killing everyone in the audience at the talk show leading him and Batman to have their final fight. Batman beats the living hell out of Joker but not without being stabbed a lot. Joker goes full on Oz and just shi-shank-shi-shah! Joker mocks Batman for not being able to finish the job and breaks his own neck. Batman spits on him and sets him on fire and gets away from the cops with the help of Robin.
The fight between Batman and Superman where they clear out Crime Alley just so the two of them can go at it is nuts! Its longer than the comic book version and makes the fight seem more even. From what I remember reading it it seemed lopsided. Green Arrow shows up with his one armed ass and hits Superman with a Kryptonite arrow making him weaker and Batman beats him until he dies of a heart attack. It was awesome. Of course he isn’t dead for real. Know why? Because he’s Batman!
I love this Batman films. As much as I liked Frank Miller’s art in the books I’m happy they chose not to use it for these. Especially the art for The Dark Knight Strikes Back. Holy hell, that art was terribly unforgivable. While I do miss the voices of Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill, Peter Weller aka Robocop and Michael Emerson aka creepy White guy in everything do a fine job.
