The Review: Beckett

Beckett 0/10

First off this movie is trash. You wanna watch some ol' bullshit? Check this out. I didn't know it existed and then L. mentioned it and I saw it was getting railed online so we started watching it. Less than half an hour in I thought it was closer to an hour. So this dude Beckett and his girlfriend April get to Greece and there is a protest so they are told that it will be noisy so they leave. He falls asleep at the wheel like an asshole and crashes into a house in the middle of nowhere. He sees a little boy who is then taken away. He wakes up in a hospital and it told that his lady is dead and he didn't see no boy.

The Review: Fear Street 1666

Fear Street Part Three: 1666 (2/10)

Spoilers. This won't be long. I'm not a huge fan of this final Fear Street. I liked the first and second but this third one was an hour and a half long recap of everything I knew from the first movies but with an explanation that Sarah Fier wasn't really the bad one in all this. Its not until the end that present day is shown and a long drawn out battle in the mall happens. I was watching this and just going “This just ain't good.” Especially compared to the other movies. Just everyone doing weird accents and me looking at the amount of time that was left. So year. I have officially watched all three. I would actually suggest people watch 1978, 1994, and the last half hour of 1666.

The Review: Mapleworth Murders

Mapleworth Murders 10/10

A few days ago while hanging with L. we turned on the Roku and on the main menu it showed this show called Mapleworth Murders. She said “What in the Murder She Wrote...?” and we decided to check this out. We immediately started laughing at this damn show. We were getting into it when suddenly the episode ended. Same with the next and so forth. Each one is less than like nine minutes long so the show flies by. If you watch this on Youtube you can finish it in about an hour and a half. Consisting of twelve episodes there are four cases lasting three episodes. It is about a writer named Abigail Mapleworth that lives in this quaint little town that has a high murder rate. One day her niece Heidi moves in with her and helps her solve crimes.

The Review: Reminiscence

Reminiscence 1/10

This movie was ass. I'm not gonna spend a lot of time talking about it. Its about a dude that has a tank that makes it so he can see and guide their memories. He falls for a woman he barely knows, she vanishes, he finds out why, the end. I gave this a 1 instead of a 0 because it was filmed nicely. But there was nothing about this that kept me interested. I said that it felt like a bootleg Nolan movie. It was trying to be so many things but felt like it managed to miss each one. Like, how can such a great cast end up in this? Were they bored? Did the script make this seem better than it was? I could not suggest this movie to anyone.

Hugh Jackman as Nicolas "Nick" Bannister

Rebecca Ferguson as Mae

Thandiwe Newton as Emily "Watts" Sanders

Cliff Curtis as Cyrus Boothe

The Review: Fear Street Part 2: 1978

Fear Street Part 2: 1978 (7/10)

I ain't gonna even try to describe this movie. I liked it but it was about half an hour too long. That half hour was spent watching teenagers running and being chopped by a dude with an ax. This is the story of the woman that the teens found in the first film and how she survived Sarah Fier back in 1978. Her older sister works as a camp counselor and tries to pretend that their lives are okay even though she lives in Shadyville and that entire town is fucked and no one can leave. Cindy is the older sister while Ziggy is the younger. Cindy's boyfriend Tommy ends up getting possessed after the nurse says that he is gonna kill everyone and she tries to take him out. The nurses daughter is the girl from the first film that killed a bunch of people with a razor while singing before killing herself. Tommy starts spacing out and acting all weird.

The Review: Nobody

Nobody 9/10

This was a damn good movie! Nobody is a movie I knew I wanted to see just based on the trailer. It turned out to be cooler than I expected. Its about a guy named Hutch that has a pretty normal ass life that is interrupted by a home invasion. His son attacks one of the robbers but Hutch tells him to stop and lets the family get robbed. His son loses respect for him, his coworkers talk shit, and his neighbor talks about what he would have done in his situation. He talks to his brother on a radio and says the robbers were scared and using an unloaded gun. His daughter asks where her little bracelet is and thinking the robbers stole it he tracks them down by the tattoo the woman robber had. Hutch heads to a tattoo parlor and one of the guys sees his small tattoo on his wrist and is like “Thank you for your service...” and runs out locking the door. He gets to their place and starts to beat the shit out of the dude until seeing they have a baby. He gets his watch and hops on a bus.

The Review: Fear Street 1994

Fear Street Part One: 1994 (7/10)

Today I decided to check out Fear Street 1994 on Netflix before the channel gets canceled for a few months. I don't actively look for horror movies but if I do I like to know there is some cheese involved. This one had all the cheese. Before I begin though I do have to say that this had a great soundtrack that reminded me of the good parts of high school. But they do spam the songs really quickly. It was like being stuck in a room with someone playing music on shuffle every ten seconds. This starts with this girl named Heather Watkins being chased down and stabbed to death in a mall after closing. The killer, Ryan Torres, is unmasked by her before she dies and he is shot and killed by a police officer. The town that they are in is called Shadyside which sounds like the type of place crimes would occur of some kind. A bunch of teenagers in school say its a curse from a witch that was hung in 1666 named Sarah Fier.

The Review: Dead Presidents

Dead Presidents 7/10

This movie was fucking crazy. I had heard of Dead Presidents. All I knew was the star of it and that there was a bank heist and face paint. That's about it. It turned out to be a movie that took place about thirty decades before I thought as well. It starts off in the late 60's and this dude Anthony is about to graduate and enlist in the Marines. Before he leaves though he ends up getting his girl Juanita pregnant so yeesh. Okay. I am bouncing all over the damn place. Let me try to explain this movie that goes from a movie about a young man making the terrible decision to join the military (I say this because I did the same thing in high school) to becoming a war movie and transforming into one of the worst heists committed to film. So Anthony lets his family know he doesn't want to go to college and they are upset. One of his friends has already been drafted and after sleeping with Juanita he tells her not to wait for him because he might not make it back.

The Review: Mo' Better Blues

Mo Better Blues 8/10

It has been about a week since I have seen this movie Mo' Better Blues and I can't quite explain exactly what its about. It starts in the late 60's in New York where this kid named Bleek is being forced to stay indoors and practice his trumpet while his disrespectful friends scream for him to come out and play. He doesn't want to play it but his mother demands his ass stay in and do it while his father is like “Just make her happy cause I wanna watch the game and she won't stop until you do.” We fast forward to Bleek now an adult man playing music with his band.

The Review: The Suicide Squad

The Suicide Squad 10/10

This movie was better than it should have been. I had seen Suicide Squad a few years back and the movie could've been awesome but for multiple reasons it was not. Blame the studio, director, his vision not being used, trailer makers, whatever. Either way it stank bad. I did not plan on seeing this until I saw who was directing it and had to at least check it out. Then they put the shit on HBO Max? Come on, now. So I watched The Suicide Squad...twice. I watched it and then watched it the next day and liked it even more the second time. I have not watched a movie back to back this way in a very long time.

The Review: The Best Man

The Best Man 7/10

In the continuing saga of L. having me watch movies which has been dubbed Black Movies 101 I watched The Best Man last week. I had heard of this movie but didn't know nothing about it. There is a theme of seeing dudes who aren't shit and them being surrounded by friends that are assholes or seem like they wouldn't be friends with the way they talk to one another. This writer named Harper has a novel that is coming out soon. His girlfriend Robyn is super supportive of him and his goals...which means he is gonna dog her ass out. He is heading to New York City to be the best man for his friend Lance's wedding to Mia. He is picked up from the airport by his friend Murch who lets slip that Jordan (I'll get to her in a moment) got his book early and it has been letting folks read it. The novel is based on their days in college with the names changed but its obvious to everyone involved whose who. Harper is an idiot.
