Theater Whore: Widows

Widows 3/10

Tonight at AFI with Koko we saw two movies. One of them was Widows starring everybody and their mama. This movie was like having every ingredient needed to bake a cake and ending up with candy corn. I don't know what the hell happened. Full disclosure, I saw the trailer for this a few months back and thought it was a joke. I did not think this was an actual thing that was being made so I did not have high hopes for enjoying it. But then as the movie started I got all kinds of happy seeing who was in it. “They got Punisher in this shit?! And Liam Neesons?! Michelle Rodriguez aka Wife #3 and Viola Davis aka Wife #5?!” Suddenly I was very interested in this movie. Hell, a lot of the cast and the director Steve McQueen were even there. I live down the street from Hollywood. Be all kinds of jealous. I'm just saying. So in the Mann's Chinese Theater or whatever they call it now with 900 mutants we watched what ended up being a clusterfuck of a movie.

The Review: True Detective Season 2 (Ep. 1-3)

I finally got around to catching up on the second season of True Detective from HBO. This has nothing to do with the first season which was one of the best pure seasons of a series I've ever watched. With an eight episode format you do not have the luxury of dicking around. Sadly that is exactly what this current season is doing. I have watched three of the four episodes aired and do not plan on continuing any further.

This and the previous season have no connection other than name which I am happy about since so far I have had to force myself to watch these three. This one takes place in California and follows four different people. There is Taylor Kitsch aka The Box Office Bomb Magnet as a war veteran/super closeted homosexual named Paul Woodrugh. His character is boring as all hell and I don't care what he does or what happens to him. Whenever he was on screen I was just waiting for it to end.

The Review: Seven Psychopaths

This will have spoilers. Last night I watched the crazy ass movie Seven Psychopaths. Its hard to even explain what its about because while it is a good movie I was more interested in the movie within the movie. Colin Farrell is Marty Freeman who is struggling to finish a script called Seven Psychopaths.

For some reason he can't think of any good ones to create. He also has a drinking problem. His friend is Billy Bickle played by Sam Rockwell. He and Hans played by Christopher Walken steal folks dogs and bring them back for a reward.

Theater Whore: Apollo 18 & Horrible Bosses

This time I’m gonna give you all a twofer since neither one of these films warrants a full review. And yes, there will be spoilers. Up first is Apollo 18 starring Warren Christie, Lloyd Owen and Ryan Robbins as three astronauts manning the Apollo 18 spacecraft.

The format of the movie is kinda strange and could’ve been awesome if used in moderation. Cameras from the shuttle and the crew members tell the tale of two of the astronauts walking on the moon and collecting specimens. There are strange happenings going on however and if you happen to miss them because of the grainy camera ass camera the shot actually pauses and focuses on what you should’ve been able to see.
