The Review: Temptations

Temptations 6/10

Next movie on the list for me to watch was the NBC TV movie Temptations. I knew of one scene from this movie and loved the group but had no idea they went through so many different members and drama and health issues. I mean, damn! This movie had everything. Perms. Do wop. Drinking. Devil's dandruff. Arthritis. Alcohol abuse. Suicide. I enjoyed this movie but you could totally tell that this was written from one persons point of view. I was online looking at all the different band members and getting all into their personal business. As fucked up as they seemed at certain points during this three hour epic they were way worse in real life. If this had been on cable or made today it would be one of the messiest movies. I also didn't remember what the band members looked like it real life so I couldn't complain about no one looking like who they were playing. The music, of course, was the best part of this along with Ruffin's performance. I would watch an entire movie about this crazy bastard. It would be like if Ike Turner had his own movie. Even the way they show his death is so disrespectful. They just show him dumped out of a car dead in front of a hospital like “Byyyyye...” This was told and made by Otis so he gets the most screen time even though it seems like Blue was there a lot. Blue dies off screen after eating dinner and rolling out of the room.

The Review: Emerald City Pilot Episode

Emerald City (Pilot) ?!/10

I have to start this by saying that commercials are the devil. I am use to watching things online or being able to skip right through commercials that it made it so hard to even begin to really get into this new series Emerald City. Its an odd feeling watching a hot chick get water-boarded and then have Jimmy Fallon dancing on the screen with a Golden Globe or someone having their brains blown out and then being shown fat pills that have the side effect of suicide along with twins at Burger King talking great deals. I am half-assed making excuses for this show because I want it to be good and there are a lot of very attractive women on here and I want to look at their faces more because I am a sad man.

You Had One Job: Constantine

I have been watching the Constantine series on NBC and for the most part it has been good. Then it got okay. Then I just watched the last few episodes and wondered exactly what the fuck happened. This show has been in an uphill battle from the start with the crappy time slot it had of Friday nights at 10pm. It has since moved earlier but still on Friday nights. Since it is on NBC I started watching knowing that chances are the it was going to be canceled mid-season or after the first. That's their style.

Even though there were some things to nitpick I liked the show at first. The fact that he couldn't smoke on the show but showing him shooting up heroin was fine. He can smoke now but its too often now. Its like when a kid is allowed to curse. Then there's the whole love angle that feels so shoehorned. This show has no need for that and watching it unfold just made me cringe. Last nights episode was a joke. It just sucked and felt like they were building up a spinoff series with The Spectre that is laughable considering they can barely keep their own show on the air. I'm getting ahead of myself.

The Hate Can't Wait: The Slap

There is a billboard that I have been seeing all around the city and on buses for a new show coming on NBC called The Slap. Not knowing anything about it Cam and I joked about what the premise would be based solely on the poster and I'll be damned if we didn't hit it right on the nose. This series is a remake of an Australian series (I already read what each episode is about and it seems like something that could be done BBC style in three or four or even a movie) which was based off of a popular book.

"A once happy family suddenly begins to fall apart following a seemingly minor incident in which a man slaps another couple's misbehaving child."

I Survived The Wonder Woman Pilot

That was something else. For some reason Wonder Woman popped into my head and I wanted to see if I could watch that terrible looking series that never aired from 2011. Turns out that it is everywhere online so I watched it and it was actually worse than I was expecting.

Now, I am not being harsh on things like special effects because it isn't complete. Here Lasso of Truth is a cartoon at times, the Invisible Jet looks like ass, and the same two girls cheer for her on two separate occasions. But I can talk about the writing and the acting both of which were just...ugh.

TV Slut: Hannibal

Yay! New TV show to watch! Yes, I am aware that there are tons of shows on cable that you all love but  haven’t had cable in damn near six years so I watch everything late or at a merciful friends house. I have seen the ads for the new Hannibal series for NBC and I got all kinds of happy and a lot of its due to the fact that Mads Mikkelsen is starring as Dr. Hannibal Lecter. That guy if he wasn’t an actor would surely be on some watch list based just on appearances. I feel the same way about Michael Shannon and Lance Henrikson

The reason why I don’t rush to watch most of the shows you all love like The Walking Dead, Sons Of Anarchy, and Breaking Bad is because they are seasons into the series and I hate playing catch up. The last time I did was with Being Human, Sherlock, and Luther. Those are all BBC shows and I was able to low through them quickly since the seasons aren’t 10-12 episodes long. With Hannibal I’m getting in on the ground floor. Ladies lingerie on the second. How did I get here? It doesn’t matter. Just enjoy the view, Susie.

"Can I Finish?!": Mockingbird Lane

Less than a year ago I wrote about the concept of a new Munsters series being made and wanted it stopped. Why? Because fuck nonsense, that’s why. Pictures have been released of the new series and I now feel comfortable since there’s no way in hell this show will make it past six episodes after airing the pilot. Its not even called The Munsters. Its called Mockingbird Lane, after their street, and is being helmed by Bryan Fuller. He has a record of shows that people like but get cancelled like Dead Like Me and Pushing Daisies

The old series was funny and silly which is something that most shows aren’t anymore. Everything is dirtier and more realistic. Fuck real. Real isn’t fun. I want Frankenstein to be married to a witch and give birth to a werewolf with a vampire grandpa and a dragon that lives under the stairs. That to me is entertaining TV! Not a more realistic version that will do nothing but offer my childhood candy and then slap it across the nose Three Stooges style. Which has happened before.
