DVDiculous: 3, 2, 1...Frankie Go Boom!

A few weeks back The Munky sent me a trailer to this movie called 3, 2, 1...Frankie Goes Boom! mostly because it had Ron Perlman as a transsexual and I was totally horrified. So of course I decided to see it since nothing makes me happier than seeing giant men dressed as women. This turned out to be a very good film that at times made me want to punch people in the face.

Frankie played by Charlie Hunnam lives in a trailer in the middle of Death Valley where he wants to be left alone. His mother calls and tells him that he needs to come home because his brother is getting out of rehab and he needs to be there to support him. Mind you, the film starts off with footage from when Frankie and Bruce were children and Bruce makes Frankie fall into a hole and is then chased by their half naked mother who falls in as well.

Bruce is played by Chris O’Dowd who was the cop in Bridesmaids. I barely recognized him. Its funny but at times his accent slips in along with Hunnam’s. So after a terrible speech given by Bruce about his sobriety Frankie leaves. Years ago Bruce posted a video from Frankie’s wedding of him puking on the bride. There’s more to it than that. Bruce says its art and doesn’t feel bad about any of the fucked up stuff he does.

I want to touch.

While leaving Frankie is almost hit by a chick named Lassie played by Lizzy Caplan looking way too damned cute and continuing me liking women in films that look like hookers. She’s drunk on her bike and says that drunk people don’t ride bikes, they drive, so Frankie must be drunk. She then crashes again and passes out. She wakes up in his car and they head back to his place.

They start talking and she says she caught her man playing “naked tag” with some friends when she showed up to surprise him with her outfit of edible draws. She tries to have sex with Frankie but he cant get an erection. She starts getting mad at him for it and eventually they lay down and he tells her of how at his wedding he found out his bride to be cheated on him so he slapped her, pulled her hair, and then puked on her. Lassie says she knew she knew Frankie from somewhere since millions of people saw it online. After insulting his girlfriend, which turns Frankie on, they are able to have sex.

Well it turns out that Bruce filmed the whole thing and sent it to Bruce a former actor fresh out of rehab played by Chris Noth. They head to Bruce’s house to get the movie and end up tossing the DVD player into the pool when Lassie shows up. Turns out she is Bruce’s daughter. This is one of those things where its too neatly packaged, you know? They later come back to get it out of the pool but Bruce gave it to his made since her husband fixes electronics.

They head to the place and some Latino guys who are actually polite let them know that the person they are looking for are gone. I say they are polite because they look like hardcore gangsters but Bruce is the one trying to act all tough with them. They break into the house and Frankie is attacked by an old blind man while Bruce tells him good luck and leaves. Frankie gets knocked out and is bailed out of jail the next day.

Bruce shows Frankie an edited version of the movie done with the help of his producer Claudia played by Whitney Cummings who is like a pretty plate with nothing on it. She gets pissed at their bickering and loads it unedited online. Frankie hasn’t told Lassie that it was even recorded and doesn’t want her to find out its now online. They head to Phil’s house who is played by Ron Perlman.

Phil is now Phyllis and was arrested for computer hacking. She likes Frankie and gets him stoned. She asks if they want to see her new breasts and Frankie hesitates and they get kicked out. Frankie the apologizes and gets stoned some more. She agrees to hack the network and take down the video. Phyllis asks if he wants to see her Brazilian wax. He reluctantly says yes and once Phyllis hikes up her dress faints.

There’s more to this but you can just find and watch this for yourselves. I read some reviews after watching this movie and people are dogging the fuck out of it. I liked it and will probably watch it again. There were parts that made me crack up laughing and others where I wanted to slap his entire family. If there’s anything that I’d complain about it’s the fact that Frankie never goes boom. I wanted him to snap on so many occasions and he never does.

Another image just for fear's sake.

This is probably one of my favourite movies. You're right, some scenes are just hilarious and it's definitely worth a re-watch!
