Theater Whore: The Shape Of Water

The Shape of Water 11/10

There will be spoilers. I know that in the past I would not rate a movie beyond a 10. I wanted to do it with Baby Driver but did not. Fuck it. The Shape Of Water deserves more than a damned 10. This was one of the best movies I've ever seen and made me so happy that movies exist. I try to find one of these types of films every year and this year it has happened multiple times (Baby Driver, Thor: Ragnarok, Guardians of The Galaxy 2).

Cam and I saw this today and we were amazed that they were able to develop so many characters in one film and not have anyone feel left out. I said that I don't need a prequel to this or a sequel. I take everything in this movie and have no more questions regarding what happened to the characters before this or after. It is fucking complete.

The Review: The Iceman

The Iceman 5/10

I finally watched this movie The Iceman starring Michael Shannon as the real life serial killer Richard Kuklinski. I had meant to watch this for a while since I watched the documentary about the guy years ago on cable. This movie should have been way better than it was but it seemed like they were trying to make this lunatic somewhat a good guy and as if he were just doing bad things to get money to give his family a better life. They showed a few moments of him losing his shit at home but left out how he beat his wife played by Winona Ryder and would be evil as hell for long periods of time. In this it was more like he would lose his temper and some of the bad would get out for his family to see. This movie definitely had a Goodfellas vibe to it which wasn't helped by the fact that Ray Liotta was in it.

Theater Whore: Midnight Special

Midnight Special 9/10

Tonight Cam and I went to check out the movie Midnight Special. All I knew about this movie from the trailer was that Michael Shannon was in it and some kids eyes glowed. That's it. We headed to the Arclight in Hollywood because the sometimes at Sundance were wonky. I'm not going to spoil too much about this movie because the less you know the better.

Theater Whore: Man Of Steel

Finally! The Ross has come back to…Theater Whore! Yes, that was a terrible imitation of The Rock. Shut up. But seriously, it has been way too damn long since I have dragged my ass to the movies and can write a review. I was gonna see Star Trek a few weeks ago but ended up staying home, talking on the phone, and cleaning because fuck outdoors. Today I headed up to The Arclight in Hollywood which is actually on Sunset and saw Man Of Steel.

Oh, there are gonna be a lot of spoilers.

This is gonna be different from my past reviews because I haven’t done this in a while and I really want to focus on all the good things that happened in this movie. A lot of people were against it from the start because Zack Snyder directed it. I liked his film Watchmen, 300, and Sucker Punch so I wasn’t worried about him. I wasn’t even worried about Henry Cavill playing Superman because he looked the part. I was worried about liking the actual movie.

Theater Whore: Premium Rush

The streets of New York City are full of lunatics on bikes that dodge in between cars and have little regard for the rules of the road or personal safety! That's what I learned from watching Premium Rush. Yeah, they have couriers like that here in Los Angeles but its concentrated in a very small area Downtown. I had heard about this movie being good and I checked its numbers at the box office and it didn't add up. I had not heard anything bad and wondered why no one was seeing this and it turns out that people have stopped going to the movies for the past few weeks.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt stars as Wilee, a bicycle messenger who is the ebst in the city. Regardless of that he does not make a lot of money. To him its not about that. Its about riding his no brake having ass bike through the city. At the end of his shift he gets a call to deliver a package that has to be there are 7pm. He gets the envelope which is at his former college where he studied to become a lawyer and is stopped by a guy you just know is bad played by Michael Shannon. Wilee leaves his ass in the dust and races off to deliver his shit.
