The Review: Iron Man 2

Iron Man 2 (8/10)

Today I decided to break my own rule I just started by watching something I have seen before. I watched Iron Man 2 which I have not seen in years. Two years ago I re-watched Iron Man and it made me appreciate the amount of growth the character has had in all these years since it happened. I felt the same way watching this one. Iron Man 3 I don't wanna talk about. I forgot that the villain in this one, Whiplash played by Mickey Rourke, had a good reason to be upset and really got into Tony Stark's mind. Robert Downey Jr. was in the damned groove making this. I had forgotten how irresponsible Iron Man had become. This takes place months after the first film and Stark is getting drunk, having parties, and scaring the hell out of anyone associated with his company.

Theater Whore: Sin City 2 A Dame To Kill For

Sin City 2 A Dame To Kill For 6/10

Today Koko and I went to check out Sin City 2: A Dame To Kill For. I wasn't expecting too much from this but it was better than I expected it to be. It has been almost ten years since the first film and it shows on some of the actors and actresses most notably Mickey Rourke. Missing were two actors that have passed away since the first film Brittany Murphy as Shellie and Michael Clark Duncan as Manute who was replaced by Dennis Haysbert as well as Devon Aoki as Miho who is pregnant.

The first story is a col short story starring Marv where he wakes up not knowing where he is or what he has been doing. He realizes that he's back in his old neighborhood and chasing these guys that burned a homeless guy. Its pretty fast where he has the guys murdered and kills a few himself while playing back how he got there. Short and sweet and very...very violent.

Theater Whore: Immortals

I cant even begin to cover this movie like a normal movie review. If you heard my latest The Rant Zone podcast you know that I was super excited to see this movie. When I first saw the trailer for it I didn’t care whether or not the plot made sense of if the acting was terrible. I just wanted to see some slow motion fighting and lots of swords cutting folks heads off. Yeah, I did get that but mixed in with a whole lotta nonsense I didn’t want.

Superman finally lost his shit.
Immortals stars Henry Cavill (Man Of Steel, The Tudors) as Theseus. He lives in a poor ass village on the side of a mountain that is going to be invaded by Mickey Rourke’s (Sin City, Rumble Fish, The Wrestler) King Hyperion. Theseus sees his mom get her throat slit and vows to start whipping evil ass. Hyperion is looking for a cool ass bow that shoots magic arrows that can kill gods. After that he wants to set the Titans free to wreck shit on Earth because his family got killed and now he don’t care about nothing anymore. Aww. I think a hug would’ve solved all of this. Theseus gets captured but instead of killing him Hyperion makes him a slave. He breaks free with the help of thief and possible rapist Stephen Dorff (fuck him, I’m not listing his movies!) and they go to fight some more.

"Bad Ass Mofo": Mickey Rourke

“I was bouncing at a transvestite nightclub and back then all the transvestites were on this shit called Angel Dust, so you'd hit them over the head with a baseball bat but they'd keep on coming.” Mickey Rourke

Boxer, bouncer, actor, dog lover, poet, sociopath. These aren’t a list of roles that the Bad Ass Mofo of the week Mickey Rourke has played. This is his real life, son! Rourke has been around for decades as an actor. He was a damned heartthrob back in the day. My first time seeing him really was in his later films and during a time when I wanted to see why certain actors were big in the first place I decided to rent some of his old films. I watched Diner, Barfly, Rumble Fish, and Pope Of Greenwich Village and had my damned mind blown. I wondered why he wasn’t an even bigger actor. He looked good and could act circles around anyone on screen. If you look at his older stuff even his voice was different. He spoke in almost a mumbling whisper compared to now where he sounds like he ate a plate of glass with a side of hot acid. I'm not saying that this is a bad thing since it works for him. I seriously cant think of any other actor that could get away from naturally progressing from one type to another the way he did. So what happened?
