Theater Whore: Deadpool 2

Deadpool 2 – 10/10

You should only read this if you have already seen Deadpool 2 or have no desire to anytime soon and don't mind spoilers because I will be spoiling the shit out of this movie. There will be no things I didn't like because this was awesome as fuck and everyone involved needs to be proud of themselves for making a movie that forced me to contain my laughter. I loved the first movie and this one was better for me in every sense. From action, story, and humor. There were also a ton of surprises that I'll spoil the fuck out of so if you don't wanna know stop reading now.

Theater Whore: Sicario

Sicario 2/10

Sicario is one of those movies that I know I should like but for whatever reason does not work for me. It has good actors like Benicio Del Toro, Josh Brolin, and Emily Blunt aka Lady Punching Bag. Its about a SWAT member being recruited to help dirty people stop other dirty people by being dirtier than the people they are hunting. It starts off hard and fast then drops to a very slow crawl until the very end of what felt like a three hour movie. I could have left, played some video games, had a quick lunch, came back, and still not have missed any information that was important to the story. After watching this I read reviews and people love this movie. Every year there is a movie people love that I don't get at all. This is that movie for 2015.

Theater Whore: Sin City 2 A Dame To Kill For

Sin City 2 A Dame To Kill For 6/10

Today Koko and I went to check out Sin City 2: A Dame To Kill For. I wasn't expecting too much from this but it was better than I expected it to be. It has been almost ten years since the first film and it shows on some of the actors and actresses most notably Mickey Rourke. Missing were two actors that have passed away since the first film Brittany Murphy as Shellie and Michael Clark Duncan as Manute who was replaced by Dennis Haysbert as well as Devon Aoki as Miho who is pregnant.

The first story is a col short story starring Marv where he wakes up not knowing where he is or what he has been doing. He realizes that he's back in his old neighborhood and chasing these guys that burned a homeless guy. Its pretty fast where he has the guys murdered and kills a few himself while playing back how he got there. Short and sweet and very...very violent.

DVDiculous: Old Boy

It was hard to watch this Old Boy movie without comparing it to the original that came out eleven years ago. But I tried my best and gave it a shot. I just watched it as if Spike Lee made this original film that was nothing like any other he'd done before. I mean, I give Lee credit for stepping out. He has done a few films that if you didn't know it was him you'd think it was some new director. Films like The 25th Hour and Inside Man were incredible and unlike his other films except for that rolling camera thing he does. And yes he does it in this one and its silly.

And yes there will be spoilers.

Josh Brolin's character is an asshole. Just totally unlikable until it gets to the point where I don't even want him to win. You know what? Fuck it. I'm comparing this to the old film. This movie holds your hand throughout it so much that I actually said “Get locked up already!” They show so much of him being a fuck up, bad businessman, bad father, alcoholic, and terrible human being that by the time he is taken and locked in that room for twenty years it seems better for society.

Theater Whore: Gangster Squad

I am listening to a review for Gangster Squad as I am writing this and I am wondering if they were in a bad mood when they saw this or even saw it. I’m not a movie critic. I’m just a dude that likes seeing movies and writing about them. I never wanna be at the point where I overanalyze the shit out of a movie and cant just enjoy it the way these guys at Spill are. Its as if they watched it writing down jokes just to use later and that’s a disservice for people who like their reviews and value their opinion. Enough about them!

I saw this with East over at the Arclight last night and I loved this movie. Let me just get that out of the way. It was more than I expected and had a lot of actors that I didn’t know were in it. I intentionally didn’t read up about this, choosing to go in blind. This is the story of a team of cops that are brought together by Josh Brolin to take down a Chicago gangster played by Sean Penn that is ruining the city. Nick Nolte plays the police chief that assigns Brolin the task of doing this though his wife is the one that tells him that he needs less clean cut cops.
