The Review: Annihilation

Annihilation 8/10

If you were to ask someone “Wanna watch something weird?” and showed them the movie Annihilation they'd be pissed off at you because that question is not enough to get their bodies ready for this. Holy shit, this is a crazy ass movie but in a very good way. I did not know anything about it and saw a sort of review (barely listened because the host get too industry-ish for my liking) and decided to check it out. It is directed by the guy that made Ex Machina which I loved and stars Natalie Portman who I have had a thing for since I was in my 20's. So I sat down and tried to ready myself for some possible oddness and hopefully a cool film.

The Review: Payback & Leon: The Professional

I watched the Mel Gibson movie Payback. I hadn't seen this in a while, like, the early 2000's and it came out in 1999. Its a pretty basic premise about a guy named Porter that gets double-crossed by his partner in crime and his wife. He gets shot in the back twice but ends up surviving and coming back for revenge. This movie was violent as hell and had some great villains.

Gregg Henry who plays his dirty ass former partner plays the jerk pretty well and I wish I could have seen a movie where the two of them do jobs together before the betrayal.

There seems to be a lot of back story that feels missing within the relationships but its still a good movie. Yeah, I'm fully aware of Gibson's reputation now but it doesn't take from the fact that he made some cool ass movies back in the day. I also managed to watch another movie I hadn't seen in a minute.

Theater Whore: Thor: The Dark World

Well...fuck. You know that thing that used to happen more often in the early 2000's when a movie would have a shit ton of good actors in it but it would still be a terrible film? That's Thor: The Dark World. This movie had everything that angers me in action films. Humor when there doesn't need to be, random ass soldiers that are supposed to be so dangerous but are easily killed, and goddamn smoke monsters! I hate smoke monsters. No, you don't even understand. Let me talk about this hour and a half long TV show passing itself off as a movie.

It starts off with a battle happening years and years ago where the bad guys lose and hide something important. Not destroy it, hide it. This ain't Christmas! Meanwhile in the present Tom Hiddleston as Loki is being arrested for all the bullshit he did in The Avenger's and is locked up. Meaning hidden. Again. This ain't Christmas! Kill this fucker! In a few days he revealed that the gods were really real and tried to bring aliens to Earth and destroy it. Fuck this guy. Natalie Portman playing Dr. Jane Foster aka The Least Likely Doctor Since Denise Richards In The World Is Not Enough is still on Earth looking up mysterious shit and waiting for Thor to come back even though he's been gone for two years and the last time he was on Earth he didn't even come by to say hello.
