Suicide Squad: Hell To Pay 8/10

Holy crap this was awesome! Suicide Squad: Hell To Pay was exactly what I wanted it to be. I did not realize that it had been four years since that last cool movie Batman Assault On Arkham. Click here to check out that review. Two times now they have managed to do in animated form what that expensive ass movie could not. Just take some criminals that will have their heads blown off if they do not follow orders, put them in a shitty spot where some will die, the end. Just make sure Deadshot and Harley Quinn live and you're good. My only real complaint is that they made Amanda Waller skinny. I always like when she is this big, Black woman.

Theater Whore: Suicide Squad

Suicide Squad 3/10

This will have some spoilers. So I did it. I said I wouldn't see this movie (click here and here for those posts) and I did because I like to take one for the team sometimes. Suicide Squad is a movie no one asked to be made and it was so we have to deal with all of the whack posters, commercials, and bitching about how a directors cut is far better than what we're seeing in theaters. Hey. For sure that isn't a good defense. No one should be allowed to hold onto good material saying it makes the film better. Just release a good film. They didn't. This movie made me feel the same way Star Trek did after watching it. I was just like “Well, that was definitely filmed.”

What I kept hearing people talk about the most regarding this movie was how good Will Smith was as Deadshot, Margot Robbie was as Harley Quinn, and the soundtrack. I agree with one of those. Smith was good as Deadshot and if that was its own movie I would watch it because he made that character so interesting that everyone else seemed like ass by comparison. “Oh, you throw boomerangs? You have crocodile skin? You got a sword with your husbands soul in it? You're a six thousand year old witch? That sounds neat. I'm a dude good at shooting shit and I am far more interesting than any of you.” He doesn't always wear the mask but its fine because it looks kinda dumb in real life.

You Had One Job: Suicide Squad

The new image of the cast of the Suicide Squad movie came out while I was caught up in the Mayweather/Pacquiao fight and hanging with a cute chick all weekend. I went to Twitter dodging Age of Ultron spoilers (I'm seeing it today!) and saw the cast and got confused. Not just because they look like a group of bad guys that would be in any B-level action film, but also because I didn't know who most of them were. Here they are listed by the photo above.

Slipknot (Adam Beach), Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney), Enchantress (Cara Delevingne), Katana (Karen Fukuhara), Rick Flagg (Joel Kinnaman), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Deadshot (Will Smith), Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) and El Diablo (Jay Hernandez). Or three Punisher's, a ninja woman, a raver, some sick woman, a monster, a Black Punisher, and a gang member. Some people are upset that the Joker isn't in this image. He isn't on the team and shouldn't even be in this already bloated film.

You Had One Job: Jared Leto Joker

So...yeah. They released the image of Jared Leto as The Joker for the upcoming Suicide Squad movie and my first reaction was “Oh, no...” followed by “Why?” I had seen a picture of Leto walking around with short green hair and I liked it. To me it meant that they were going with a classic version of Joker and not leaning on Heath Ledger's version. But after seeing this picture I kinda wish they had. I don't hate the way this looks. It would be cool to me if it wasn't supposed to be Joker. I'm just not digging this. The teeth. The tattoos. 

I just can't. 

I like a scary Joker, a silly Joker, or a terrifying Joker. This one looks like a member of Die Antwoord. I can't even really say that I'll check this out when its in theaters because the more I learn about DC's upcoming films the less I care. I do have to say that I am happy to see a picture for one of their films where the character doesn't look like they just got back home from a funeral.

You Had One Job: Suicide Squad Cast Announced

Warner Bros. has released the cast for the upcoming Suicide Squad movie in 2016. I was really excited about this movie...until I saw the cast. Now, there are some actors that while I enjoy do not think they should be in this movie. I am not super emotionally invested in this team. I had a few comics when I was younger and the team rotates its members. Even so, there is one on this version of the team I've never heard of and one that while I've heard of would never commit to film. Can't they just make a live action version of the animated film? Shark isn't even in this. 

Jared Leto as Joker

I wrote a blog about who I think could play Joker of Leto hadn't signed on (click here for that). I have no problem with him playing Joker. Hopefully he does his own version and doesn't try and imitate Heath Ledger's version. 

Who Should Be The Joker?

Ryan Gosling as The Joker?! Shut up and take my money! Well, that was being reported but then shut down because he didn't want to commit to the amount of films required. I previously wrote a blog about who the best Joker was (click here to read that). Later I wrote a Who Should Be? featuring some actors that I almost wanted to use for this. That time it was for Dr. Strange and it looks like one of the people I picked, Benedict Cumberbatch, will play him...possibly maybe.

Jared Leto is the next name being tossed out to play Joker in the Suicide Squad movie. I'm not sure how it will tie into the upcoming DC films. That is a lot of characters to introduce but if they do it anything like the animated version, Batman Assault On Arkham, which did a great job of showcasing the characters.

Joker is one of if not the most well known villains in comic books, cartoons, and movies. He is never played the same and anyone that would try to do what Heath Ledger did would be a bad idea. He didn't copy Jack Nicholson just as Nicholson didn't copy Cesar Romero.
