Black Panther Does Something Different

The character Black Panther makes an appearance in the latest Marvel film Captain America: Civil War with his own solo film coming in 2018 starring Chadwick Boseman. Black Panther has been around since 1966. Quick version of his story is that he is given the title of the king of Wakanda which is a very high tech place in Africa while maintaining old traditions such as the role of being Black Panther. The current one is named T'Challa and he is a bad ass even without his suit made from the metal that his country has called Vibranium. Its what Captain America's shield is made from. He kicks a lot of ass.

I was talking to a friend that has not seen almost any of these Marvel films and does not have a strong desire to about what I like most about BP and his story: he isn't a thug. He was never a thug. He is a prince that becomes king. He didn't have a troubled childhood in the mean streets that he had to fight his way out of. I love that. Why? Because I am so fucking sick of seeing it in films and from comic book characters that are Black. Yeah, I know there are some that are not like that like...shit. I am actually having trouble thinking of one. John Stewart Green Lantern maybe? Just checked. No. He seems like a dick.

You Had One Job: X-Men Apocalypse

If you are reading this chances are you have already seen X-Men Apocalypse and I feel your pain. Or you plan on seeing it and don't mind things being spoiled. If you have seen the trailer you pretty much know the entire movie. You know Magneto is gonna destroy some stuff. Professor X loses his hair. Wolverine comes back. Oscar Isaac is unrecognizable as Apocalypse. The X-Men let a lot of the planet get destroyed.

If anything this movie proved that mutants are terrible and should be wiped out. I sided so much with the military in this movie. According to this universe if you take any two mutants, any of them, chances are they can take over the world or at the very least destroy most of it. In this post I am gonna talk about all of the characters in the movie using a short synopsis of each of them from the internet. If you keep reading beyond this point you can't be a little bitch and complain about anything being ruined. I mean, you can if being a little bitch is your thing. I also won't make any comparisons between this movie and Batman V. Superman or Captain America: Civil War. This garbage is its own garbage. Yeah, there is destruction in all of these but the amount in this is unheard of.

Theater Whore: X-Men Apocalypse

X-Men Apocalypse 1/10

This will have all kinds of spoilers. Ooh, this movie is bad. X-Men Apocalypse is a movie I had no high hopes for but still saw hoping that it would surprise me. And it did. I was surprised that this was filmed, edited, and completed without someone going “Wow, this is kinda terrible.” I'm not gonna waste time mentioning all the actors names or anything. Its just not worth it. I'll spend my energy complaining and will be drained by the end of this. I wasn't a big fan of Origins but liked the Magneto parts. Days Of Future Past was a joke. I won't mention the Wolverine movie because I like to think it didn't exist.

The Review: The Brothers Grimsby

The Brothers Grimsby 7/10

A while back I accidentally heard about this movie called The Brothers Grimsby. I don't even remember how or when but while looking at stuff on Youtube I saw Sacha Baron Cohen show a clip from this movie where they couldn't show the scene but just the audience reaction. That made me want to check this out because I had to see what could do this to someone. In clips from scary movies its always just a blanket being yanked off someone sleeping or a chair moving. In this I knew it was following an explosion so I figured it was a gross wound. Oh, no. It was far worse than that.

The Review: Flash Season Two

The Flash 2/10

I have been trying to think of another show that dropped in quality as much as this second season of The Flash did. Daredevil was bad in its second season but Punisher helped quite a bit. Sadly, there was no gun wielding psychopath to save this show. Between there being 23 episodes and the fact that it took a break in the middle I had to reread what even happened this season. This season starts off half a year after the last season where Barry Allen feels bad for taking credit for saving the Earth and his city. By the way, when his city is in trouble, it kinda is world threatening which makes me wonder why Green Arrow and Supergirl don't call to offer help.

A portal opens up and this guy named Jay Garrick who is Earth-2's Flash shows up talking about this evil speedster named Zoom. Also that Earth's version of Professor Well's shows up at some point. He is bad on his planet but not evil the way the fake professor that turned out to be someone impersonating the real Wells is. Goddamn it, this is confusing. He also has a daughter. By using the internet I find out that this girl will one day become a speedster as well.

The Review: Luther Season 4

Luther 8/10

I finally got around to watching Series 4 of the BBC show Luther starring Idris Elba. Again, a great example of something being less is more for a TV show. The previous seasons had four episodes but this one had just two of them. To me there has not been a single wasted moment in this series and this was no exception. Considering there were just two episodes that would have been terrible. This continues after the previous season where Luther has left the police force and something happens that upset the shit out of me at the start of the episode. I won't say what but, damn it. I hope its not true. This is the type of show that I can't picture anyone else doing and when I heard there was an American remake possible I just rolled my eyes so hard I fell down.

The Review: Preacher (Pilot Episode)

Preacher 6/10

A British guy, and English guy, and an Irish/Ethiopian woman star as a Texas preacher, an Irish vampire, and a Southern woman in the new AMC series Preacher based off of the comic books. I am a fan of the comic but not super attached to it so I don't mind the shit ton of changes that were done in this pilot episode. Dominic Cooper who I think is a great actor stars as Jesse Custer who is given the power of The Word. If he tells you to do something you will. Joe Gilgun is Cassidy, the Irish vampire. And Ruth Negga is Tulip O'Hare. There will be some spoilers.

The Review: Maggie

Maggie 6/10

You remember that scene in Shaun Of The Dead where Shaun's mom turns into a zombie and he is struggling to kill her because she is his mom and he loves her and all that? Imagine an entire movie based off that one emotion and you'll have Maggie. This movie was far better than I was expecting it to be and continues with these Arnold Schwarzenegger films that end up good with no attention like The Last Stand. I never saw any trailers for this but saw the cover art plenty of times online and Amazon with no desire to check it out. But randomly while ironing I decided to. I'm glad that I did.

Fantastic Four Needs Another Reboot

I have seen all of the Fantastic Four movies. The Roger Corman one, the terrible ones with Captain America as The Human Torch, and the latest one starring Creed and Whiplash. Out of all of them the Corman one is the closest in tone to what I'd expect from a FF movie. Yeah, I know there's a rubber arm waving at the end which is funny no matter how many times I see it but its still a better movie than the others. Strange considering it was made on a budget of $1 million while the others were $100 million, $130 million, and $120 million respectively.

One of the screenwriters for the last FF movie that has been trashed by everyone but I liked more than most recently talked about making a sequel for it. “We didn't make a good movie, and the world voted, and I think they probably voted correctly. And you can't make a good movie every time out--not everybody does. We actually have a pretty good batting average, all things considered. But I think we made many mistakes when we made that movie--mistakes that we learned from and we wouldn't repeat” Simon Kinberg said in an interview.

The Review: Mortal Kombat (1995)

Mortal Kombat ?/10

Mortal Kombat is one of my favorite movies of all time. People use it as an example of how terrible video game based movies are. Granted, the special effects look like something that kids with an iPhone will laugh at and the fight scenes are more hilarious than deadly. But, come on. It came out 21 years ago. I have watched this movie over 100 times. I am not kidding. This along with Training Day, Full Metal Jacket, and Tropic Thunder are movies I've seen more than any other movie.

The Review: Ash Vs Evil Dead Season 1

Ash Vs Evil Dead 10/10

This will contain spoilers. Its not often I will watch a show and in the middle of an episode shout “I love this show!” But Ash Vs Evil Dead made me say it a few times. This series aired on Starz which I'm not even sure many people get. If that channel continues to put out shows like this one I'll be happy to watch. AVED is a show that continues from the Evil Dead movies from decades ago. I was late getting into them (I think I was in my early 20's) but quickly loved them. I'd seen Bruce Campbell in shows for years and some Sam Raimi stuff but never really connected the two. In this series Ash played by Bruce Campbell is working at a electronics shop while lying about why he lost his right hand to have sex with women.

Who Was The Black Woman In Captain America Civil War?!

When I was watching Captain America: Civil War there was a scene where Black Panther is heading to his car to leave and this Black lady tells Black Widow (so much Black!) to move or she will move her. Me and some other people in the theater were like “Whoa. Who is this?” I went online looking for some random Black Panther sidekick or partner that I wasn't aware of. I even checked during the credits looking for a comic book type name that I could attach to this woman. I couldn't, Even when I checked online for something like “Black woman, Civil War, Black Panther” nothing came up. Plus those three phrases will lead you down a 1960's rabbit hole of injustice.

Who Is The Best Spiderman?

On paper Spiderman seems like he'd be one of the easiest comic book characters to make a film of. A high school student bitten by a radioactive spider gets super powers and uses the to fight crime after the death of his Uncle Ben while keeping it secret from his Aunt May. To me the most difficult part would be the actual look of them swinging on a web through the city special effects wise. And I am not including the mad for TV version from 1977 where he had salad strainers over his eyes sometimes and mirrors others then shot two inch thick ropes at folks.

The third film version of Spiderman recently appeared in the new Captain America: Civil War film which means that I can now judge which of the three is the best one. I am going to start a new system introducing a Defining Moment for the character in the movie that either made or broke them.

Theater Whore: Captain America Civil War

Captain America Civil War 10/10

No complaints! I have none regarding this movie. There will be some spoilers. I got back from seeing Captain America Civil War and am already planning to watch it at least one more time in theaters. This is more of an Avengers movie than Captain America which is not a problem for me. This movie had more surprises than I expected as well as characters. If you haven't seen the movie yet you really should not read this unless you care about spoilers. This was a great film.

The Review: Lucifer Season 1

Lucifer 6/10

The first season of Lucifer on Fox wrapped up and I didn't realize it. I was waiting to watch it and some other show debuted which if course made me go “Only on Fox!” thinking it was already canceled or doing like The Flash and taking a month off in the middle of the season. This wasn't the case. Its been green-lit for a second season which is cool. I wrote about the pilot a while back (click here to check that out) and other than one actor being switched the cast is pretty much the same and sadly so is the basic premise of weird guy helping solve crimes. That is a thing on too many shows now. Someone gets murdered and no one can figure out why until Captain Asperger appears.

WWE Payback 2016 Review

No one in the above picture was at this show. I don't watch much WWE anymore. I tend to catch the highlight on Youtube, watch PWG clips, as well as NXT. As a child I watched wrestling all the time and in my early 20's would watch up to 11 hours a week of it. But over time I started to care less and less, my only real consistent contact last being when I was writing for Tha O Show. So watching WWE Payback tonight was a big deal because I will usually just watch Wrestlemania every year if I feel like it. This PPV ended up being better than the previous Wrestlemania and I actually sat through the entire show. Yay me. I'll rate each match the same way I do my movie reviews using a 1 through 10 scale.
